Sir Thomas George Rutherford, the then Governor of Bihar in 1947, played a pivotal role in the early development of the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama's medical services. Deeply moved by the Ashrama’s humanitarian efforts, he extended generous support towards the establishment of a dedicated eye hospital in North Bihar—a region then lacking in specialized ophthalmic care. His involvement went beyond administrative endorsement; it was Sir Rutherford who personally laid the foundation stone of the 30-bedded Eye Infirmary, demonstrating his commitment to public welfare and equitable healthcare. His contribution marked a turning point in the region's medical history, setting in motion decades of vision-restoration work that would benefit lakhs of patients. His name remains etched in the Sevashrama’s legacy as a symbol of empathetic governance and enlightened leadership.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad, in 1956 in a celebration, admired its humanitarian activities like Allopathy and Homoeopathy dispensaries, Eye infirmary, and Mahila Kala Mandir. Being pleased with its selfless services, he donated an X-Ray machine to the Sevashrama. The Sevashrama has always been recognised by the society for its selfless services, self-sacrifice, integrity, transparency, and broad and scientific outlook. Of late, the Sevashrama has gained fame for its Eye Hospital and flood relief services. It also received a medal from the local administration in 2005 in recognition of its flood relief efforts.
